Pools are the new cool
THE RECENT hot summer made many of us long for a pool. Heronslea’s The Residence, in Hadley Wood, has private heated pools for two of the nine apartments. Nick Staton of agent Statons says: “During the incredible summer weather, we had a surge of buyers wanting homes with swimming pools. As well as the heatwave, this due to the luxury market changing — swimming pools are becoming the new must-have.
“While swimming pools are often found in prime houses, it is very usual for a development to feature apartments with private pools as is the case at The Residence.”
On the edge of Hadley Common, the development has a feeling of countryside tranquillity, despite the short distance from London. A sweeping driveway leads to the former manor house.
The lobby showcases a hand-crafted chandelier and has a concierge. The basement car park provides two spaces per apartment, with eight additional visitor spaces, a storeroom per apartment and a mirrored gym. A lift serves every floor from the car park.
The apartments all have three bedrooms and the penthouse has virtually 360-degree views overlooking countryside from the private roof terrace complete with its own spa bath. Prices start at £1,595,000.
For those of us who have to share our luxurious swimming pools, the larger they are, the better — and one of the largest of its type is at Buxmead, in The Bishops Avenue, north London’s billionaires’ row. Built by Harrison Varma, Buxmead also has a private residents’ gym and spa.
Prices start at £5.95 million. Agents are Glentree, Savills and Aston Chase.
