Downsize the home; upgrade the lifestyle

-

TTHE NUMBER of people downsizing has been rising steadily since 2015, according to research by Legal & General. This market now accounts for nearly £1 trillion in housing wealth. London remains the area with greatest potential for empty-nesters to make financial gains by selling the family home, moving into an apartment and freeing some money.

The outskirts of Greater London are a great downsizing option, with their lower house prices, more relaxed lifestyle and transport links into the capital.

Hillside Manor, a prestigious new apartment development by Heronslea Group, in Brookshill, Harrow Weald, is ideal for those wanting to downsize without feeling the space pinch.

Jason Rishover, CEO of Heronslea Group, says: “With property prices in the capital more expensive, homes in the Super Suburbs of Greater London are appealing, as people thinking of moving a bit further out can get a lot more for their money.

“Hillside Manor is perfect for people wanting to downsize their space but upscale their quality of life. We have been building for the downsizers’ market for many years, so over this time we have changed our designs to reflect what people are looking for.”

Designed for “lock up and leave”, the homes stand in gated grounds with attractive views and have high-spec interiors, private parking and security.

Once the home of the Crosse & Blackwell family, the former manor house, which dates back to 1868, has been replicated by Heronslea. Now complete, there are seven apartments in the now-reconstructed house, as well as two renovated listed buildings which were previously stables and outhouses. The apartments all have private terraces or balconies and parking and offer a range of layouts with two or three bedrooms.

The cottage is on two floors, with two bedrooms, a spacious kitchen and separate lounge, while The Stables, a characterful three-bedroom, threebathroom home, contains a separate kitchen, dining room and spacious living room. The interior spec includes premium hardwood flooring, underfloor heating, walnut doors, LED lighting and hallway cornicing, designer kitchens with Siemens built-in appliances and luxury bathrooms and ensuites.

Leisure options nearby include the London Designer Outlet at Wembley, the green spaces of Stanmore Country Park and Bentley Priory, Bushey Sports Club, Cannon Sports Centre and Grimsdyke Golf Club. The pretty town of Harrow Weald is good for dining out and there are excellent local schools.

Hillside Manor is ten minutes’ drive from Harrow and Wealdstone station (London Euston, just over 30 minutes).

Prices start from £699,950 for the apartments and from £525,000 for the houses. The apartments are ready to move into; the houses are due for completion in March. Agent is Preston Bennett.
