OAKWOOD A LOS CAMDEN A

STIRLING KAY saluted his team for “controlling” the game as an Oliver Sadeinspired Los Camden A surprised League Cup holders Oakwood A.

A wonder goal from striker Dean Rosenthal set the tone as he latched on to a pass from Johann Jordi before curling a shot into the top corner from 30 yards.

Los Camden doubled the lead early in the second half when a speculative effort from Jordi was parried by the Oakwood goalkeeper, with Dan Orgel on hand to slot home the rebound.

Camden’s Mike Khalastchi and Gav Krieger were dominating the midfield exchanges, but Oakwood were handed a lifeline when Josh Cuby won and converted a penalty.

Oakwood surged forward

Oliver Sade for the next 10 minutes but Los Camden held firm, with goalkeeper Steve Murad in inspired form.

The introduction of substitute Sade saw Los Camden’s regain the initiative and there was a touch of class about both of his goals in the last 15 minutes. Frenchman Jordi added the gloss in the closing stages when his wicked cross evaded a cluster of players in the penalty area and curled into the net. Josh Bharier scored a second goal for Oakwood with the last kick of the game but it was Los Camden who ran out worthy winners.

“I felt we controlled the game and Oakwood found it difficult to break us down,” said Los Camden manager Kay. “This was a perfectly executed team performance from the boys.

“The back-five dealt with everything that was thrown at them and the midfield worked tirelessly, winning the ball back and they gave us options going forward. The three up front looked dangerous and were all rewarded with goals for their hard work and shifts they put in. “Our substitutes also helped us get over the line and it was our team ethic and hard work that gave us this win.”

Oakwood joint-manager Dan Kristall reflected on a “terrible day at the office”. He said: “Fair play to Camden who counter-attacked well, but it was a day when anything that could go wrong did go wrong. We were missing nine firstteam regulars and lost our goalkeeper to injury during the warm-up. But that shouldn’t take anything away from our visitors. Stirling works hard and has a good bunch of players. They will take points off plenty of teams, especially if they defend as well as that.”
