Richard Bronzite believes teenager Max Ashton has a bright future ahead of him in the MGBSFL following the nailbiting win over promotion rivals SPEC. Craig Sandford (2), Seth Walmer and Ashton earned Redbridge their fourth win of the season, as they closed the gap on SPEC to two points, with two games in hand. “I’m delighted with the win, which we deserved,” commented Bronzite. “As per most of games this season, we didn’t start well but once we got going, we were always in control. Max was a constant threat. He scored his first goal in men’s football and I’m certain it won’t be his last. He’s just 16, but plays with great maturity.” SPEC FC’s goals came via Josh Green, Sam Shackleton and an own goal. Player-manager Ricky Lawrence said: “The better team won on the day. We can have no complaints about the result in what was a decent game.”

FOOTBALL Dean Furman, 30, has been ruled out of South Africa’s Afcon qualifier against Nigeria next month following shoulder surgery. The SuperSport United midfielder suffered a torn joint during training and will not play again this year. Furman has made 49 caps for his country.

CRICKET Michael Klinger will return to Gloucestershire next season after agreeing a contract to play and captain the side in the T20 Blast. The 38-year-old Australian will return for a seventh season at the county while also taking on a role as batting consultant.
