Labour activist probed for Councillor’s sharing ‘Shoah hoax’ posts hate apology
A LABOUR member who has worked as a video producer on campaigns for Jeremy Corbyn, Stop The War Coalition and Palestinian Solidarity Campaign is being investigated by the party after sharing antisemitic material on social media — including claims the Holocaust was a hoax.
Paul Merron is behind the w4media company which has filmed numerous promotional videos for left-wing groups — including a video produced for three Labour branches in the London Borough of Ealing and several for the JC4PM group.
In a post Mr Merron said: “I joined the Labour Party to support Jeremy Corbyn, the first politician in my lifetime to inspire me with his honesty, courage and values.”
But angry party members have contacted to the JC to complain about his social media messages.
In one post, he shared a message that said: “15 year old-girl learns the truth about the Holohoax.”
In another he shares imagery referencing the 1933 Haavara Agreement involving the German Nazi regime, under the title: “The Nazi-Zionist Connection — Shocking Hidden History.”
Another states: “Six Jewish Companies Control 96% Of The Worlds Media”.
Peter Mason, the Jewish Labour Movement’s national secretary and a councillor for Ealing — where Mr Merron says he is based — wrote on Twitter that Mr Merron’s postings were “disgusting”. He added he would take the issue up within the local party and complain to Jennie Formby, the national party’s general secretary. Ealing Labour denied Mr Merron was a member and said it had referred complaints against him to the national party.
The statement added: “Paul Merron does not work for Ealing Labour Party nor has he ever been formally employed by the Local Campaign Forum or the Labour Group of Councillors. We have ascertained that he was asked to record an event held on the June 2… which was jointly sponsored by all three Constituency Labour Parties in the Borough.
“He was paid a one-off fee by the three CLPs for this freelance work.”
The Stop The War Coalition confirmed Mr Merron “has occasionally filmed our events” but said they “condemn all antisemitism including the offensive posts on his FB page.”
Asked if they were investigating Mr Merron, a Labour Party spokesperson said: “All complaints about antisemitism are fully investigated in line with our rules and procedures.”
The JC contacted Mr Merron for comment but received no response. Paul Merron
A RISING Labour star accused of spreading antisemitic conspiracy theories on social media has messaged all councillors in Tower Hamlets apologising and claiming he failed to read the material he was distributing.
Mohammed Pappu, 26, shared the material that reportedly included posts that Israel staged 9/11 and the Paris terror attacks.
Cllr Pappu also shared a photograph on Facebook of President Assad of Syria and his wife, Asma, having an imaginary conversation in which she says: “Why does the West want to invade Syria?” Bashar al-Assad’s response is: “To rob our oil, put in a puppet government and install a Rothschild bank!”
In his email to councillors, Cllr Pappu wrote: “I referred myself to the Standards Committee and have now been notified that they intend to take no further action, given that I have made a full apology, that the incidents occurred before I was a Councillor, and that I have said I am willing to undergo training.
“I have not written or said these things. I did not create the material. I very stupidly shared material written by other people without thinking, without reading it properly and without thinking through the implications. That is no excuse and I do not seek to avoid taking the responsibility.”
Sources told the JC that Cllr Pappu will now spend time without the Labour whip.
