Charity supporters run up a respectable total

-

CAMP SIMCHA and Jewish Care fielded teams in Sunday’s Royal Parks Half Marathon, raising around £20,000 in total.

Nine of the 13 Camp Simcha runners — Lee Bladon, Mandy and Danny Myers, Hannah Glass, Debbie Dawson, Jessica Neiss, Michelle Tarpey, Dan Kleinman and Debbie Colton — fundraised for the charity’s Evie’s Night Owls project for respite care. Shalom Moise, Rebecca Cohen, Reuben Rodner and Tammi Phillips also contributed to the £14,000 brought in.

Mr Moise, who has been volunteering on Camp Simcha retreats as a “big brother”, said he had been inspired by seeing “so many amazing families fight unimaginable hardships, all with love and smiles that could light up the world.

“The more I help Camp Simcha, the more I feel the need to give back.”

Some £6,000 was raised by the Jewish Care contingent, which included Viv Green, an old age psychiatrist and chair of the charity’s dementia consultative group.

“It’s widely known in the community what a valuable role Jewish Care holds for the vulnerable among us Viv Green running for Jewish Care

and it’s a pleasure to be lending my support,” she said.

Another runner, Toby Hanbury, said he had been spurred on by the “high fives and cheering” of the Jewish Care team.

Max Heller, 28, a graduate of Jewish Care’s lay leadership development programme, added that the race had been “a great way to see the incredible parks and palaces in London”.

Other participants for the charity were Joel Brandon, Michael Necati, Ben Rebuck, Claire Blumenthal and Lewis Maleh.
