SAM Hatton’s treble fired Manchester Maccabi to their fifth consecutive victory as they overcame their toughest challenge to date in a 5-2 win over Manchester Rovers.

Maccabi took the lead through talisman Hatton who headed home a precision cross from Jamie Green.

Hatton added a second before Rovers pulled one back midway through the first half.

But it was Hatton who responded, yet again, by completing a stunning first half hat-trick, this time heading home a Toby Levy cross from the left.

Rovers kept pushing in the second half and they were awarded a penalty, only for Maccabi goalkeeper Jack Showman to palm the shot to safety.

Maccabi continued to threaten and they secured the points with a penalty of their own, successfully converted by player-manager Michael Sacks after Levy was fouled by the Rovers’ keeper.

There was still time for a bit of pressure as Rovers pulled one back with a quarter of an hour to play, but substitute Jacob Huller grabbed his second goal in two games to seal the win.

Maccabi player-manager Michael Sacks said: “We are continuing to be clinical in front of goal, no one more than Sam Hatton who is reaching new levels of consistency this season.

“The defenders are also playing their part, led by captain Adam Jackson, Jake Bentwood and Dovid Herman. Make no mistake, the whole squad is playing its part in this run.”

Elsewhere, Maccabi’s Yellow team came from two goals down to beat Leeds Maccabi in the MJSL. Jake Sorkin scored twice but Maccabi triumphed thanks to a hat-trick from captain Oli Grant.
