Life-enhancing developments

- BY GINA BENJAMIN

ANEW KOSHER supported living home for adults has opened in Finchley Central, north London. Dollis Park House is suitable for people aged over 18, who are living with learning disabilities, autism or mental health needs. Support can be provided 24/7 at any level, including one-to-one or two-to-one. Nationwide Care, which runs the home, is working closely with Jewish Care.

The home has six bedrooms, of which some are still vacant at time of writing; three bathrooms; a kosher kitchen, a TV room, an additional living room and a large garden. A day centre is due to be added in the spring.

Another supported living home is on its way in Canons Park and this will have an indoor pool.

The intention is to open a network of homes across the country.

COME ALONG FOR THE RIDE Using incentives to motivate yourself and/or training as a group are good ways to ensure you exercise. One charity that has created a cycling community is Bike4Kef. It was established in 2009 to support Kef, a charity providing activity programmes and residential camps for children and young adults with special needs. The bike ride shares the charity’s ethos, with a family atmosphere and sense of camaraderie. A group is created for the riders to share their training rides, using tracking tools such as Strava. Men who would like to take part in Bike4Kef this year can sign up now. The main ride (there are two options: 100K or 100 miles) is scheduled for the May bank holiday, circumstances permitting. To participate in Bike4Kef you will need to raise a minimum of £1,250 in sponsorship.
