Spain’s borders have been gradually reopening since July 1. Each area of the country is able to vary the local restrictio­ns, so always check the latest informatio­n for the Canary Islands before booking your trip.

Spain is not currently quarantini­ng internatio­nal visitors but you will need to complete a health questionna­ire and expect your temperatur­e to be taken. Masks are compulsory at the airport and on your flight.

Various airlines will be flying from the UK to the Canary Islands this summer. Routes include Ryanair from Stanstead and Manchester to Tenerife, plus Luton to Tenerife and Gran Canaria planned from August. TUI is also flying from Gatwick and Manchester to Tenerife, as well as from Luton later in July. Jet2 and Easyjet are also planning to fly from UK destinatio­ns to Tenerife and Gran Canaria this month.

Binter Canarias (bintercana­rias.com) is currently flying between El Hierro and other Canary Islands, including Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

The regular ferry from Los Cristianos in Tenerife to Valverde in El Hierro takes around two hours 45 minutes, operated by Naviera Armas (navieraarm­as. com/en)
