Amelie is all heart in marathon fundraiser
ELEVEN-YEAR OLD Amelie Anderson has completed a marathon — a 26-mile walk between Tower Bridge and Hampton Court — in aid of Israeli charity Save A Child’s Heart.
“The heart of a healthy 12-year old girl beats approximately 60,000 times every 12 hours,” the Richmond Synagogue member said. “My goal was to walk 60,000 steps to raise £11,500 to enable a child from a developing country to undergo life-saving heart surgery.”
Intheend,shemanaged70,000steps and her supporters included Uri Geller, who sent her an audio message of encouragement via WhatsApp and also donated the funds required to complete her target.
The money will cover medical care, plus travel and accommodation costs for the child and a family member.
To more fully appreciate the charity’s work, Amelie has been corresponding with Abay, a 13-year-old from Ethiopia who recently underwent successful heart surgery through Save A Child’s Heart.
Amelie’s mum Dr Chloe ZeffertAnderson was proud that her efforts would make “a profound difference to the life of another child and their family.
“Despite the unprecedented challenges we are facing as a result of Covid-19, we shouldn’t forget the millions of children around the world who are suffering from life-threatening conditions and who need urgent help.”
