Paris SaintJewmain win battle of the bottom

- BY ANDREW SHERWOOD

IT MAY not have been pretty, but Archie Leigh’s strike proved to be enough as Paris Saint-Jewmain won the battle of the bottom two sides in Division One, beating Temple Fortune 1-0.

Mill Hill Dons claimed one of the victories of the day as they won a seven-goal thriller to hand the leaders Borussia Barnet only their second league defeat of the season. Zack Cohen scored twice, with Elliot Freer and Isaac Virchis also on target.

Manager Brandon Hamme said: “It was an incredible performance from the boys, beating the leaders despite being down to 10 men. The mentality and desire was spot on from start to finish and we got the win we deserved.”

London Bears took advantage to move within two points of the leaders as they came from a goal behind to beat Brook Farm 4-1. Zacki Doumou helped himself to a hat-trick, with Sam Shackleton scoring their fourth. Manager James Harpin said: “It was an unbelievable second half performance after a shocking first one.”

Club de Chigwell dropped two points in their title pursuit — and a two-goal lead against FC Team as they were held to a 2-2 draw, Adam Shafron and Jon Haik scoring for the latter.

Faithfold Green and Hertswood Vale shared the points in a 1-1 draw, Ben Krieger and Dan Reuben scoring respectively. Faithfold’s Ben Kfir said: “It was a good first game back, we felt we were very dominant in the first half but took the foot off the pedal in the second.”

Maccabi London Lions made it six wins from six at the top of the Premier Division thanks to a comfortable 4-1 win at Jewdinese.

HMH remain three points behind them as two goals from Tom Prias, along with Ethan Krell’s strike saw them win 3-2 at NL Raiders. HMH’s Avi Goldberg said: “We endured a nervy finish when we should have had the game wrapped up a lot earlier.”

Hendon moved into third spot as they took six points from their double-header encounter against NL Galaxy, beating them 2-0 twice. Chaim Korman and Moses Seitler scored in their first win, with Ari Last and Seitler netting in the second. Manager David Garbacz said: “It was fantastic to finally be back playing Sunday morning football again. It’s not easy getting two wins from a doubleheader but we stuck to the task really well in both games and managed to overcome a pretty stubborn Galaxy team. These wins now set us up nicely to mount a proper title challenge in the coming weeks ahead.”

NWL Azzurri moved to the top of Division Two — albeit on goal difference — thanks to a 4-0 win at Straw Hat Pirates. Sam Lavender , Nathan Rosenthal, Brandon Wolmark and an own goal saw them to the points, with manager Sam Morris saying: “It was a bit of a rusty performance, back after a long break, however it’s another three points and we’re still unbeaten.” They’re joined on 18 points by Stoke Salmon, who were 1-0 victors over FC East thanks to a lastminute winner from Jonny Halmer. Manager Jamie Weiner said: “It was a rusty 90 minutes of football, which is to be expected after four months out, but we continue our 100% winning start to the season.”

Hampstead Ducks continue to lead the way of the chasing pack as goals from Sam Circurel and Sam Shooter saw them win 2-1 at Redbridge, while two goals each from Zack Neiman and Jonny Blain helped SPEC to a 6-3 win over West Hendon, Josh Green and Rafi Neiman also on target for Ricky Lawrence’s men.
