London Lions move to joint top of the table

In the Maccabi Masters Football League, London Lions moved level with Brady at the top of the table following a 6-2 win over St John’s Wood Tigers. Gideon Barnett found the back of the net four times, with strikes from Pete Lazard and Ory Halperin completing the emphatic scoreline. Grant Morgan and John Perloff replied for Tigers. Marshside recorded their first win of the season, beating Temple Fortune 5-2. Fortune found themselves 2-0 up at the break thanks to goals from Robert Botkai and Dean Ingram, but a second half comeback of epic proportion­s saw Mark Davis’ double, plus strikes from Dan Forman, Ben Shooter and Paul Rodin complete the unlikely comeback.

After last week’s goal drought, the Manchester Jewish Soccer League came up trumps on the goal front with Sunday’s two games producing 21 goals between them.

Maccabi 3rds moved three points clear at the top of the table thanks to a thumping 10-4 win over Jewventus. Will Feldman scored four times, Saul Mattatia bagged a hat-trick, Dan Delew chipped in with two, with Moishe Hasid completing the rout.

Over in Liverpool, Haroldeans moved up into third following a 5-2 win over Reich. Jack Bookey scored two penalties, with Marley Rubens, Max Barnett and Marcus Nezri also on target.

There was another round of U9 and U10 age group matches in the Maccabi GB Junior Football League, all of which were officiated by a qualified referee. This coming Sunday sees the return of the U7 and U8 age groups.
