Kisharon brings in £1.6m from 36-hour fundraiser

-

THANKS TO the support of 5,500 donors, Kisharon raised more than £1.6 million over the Bank Holiday weekend to maintain its services for those with learning disabilities.

The proceeds represent a large chunk of the £2.1 million needed from the community for the charity to meet its programme for the next year.

Chief executive Richard Franklin was “so in awe” of the warmth and generosity shown to Kisharon during the 36-hour matched fundraising drive.

“This past year I have been astounded by people’s ingenuity, flexibility, creativity and determination. Nowhere more has this proven to be the case than our supporters’ ability to fundraise.”

The number of donors — “a staggering 55 per cent increase on last year — believed in those we support and their abilities”.

Tik Tok-style films during the campaign highlighted how Kisharon helped its clients to be the best they can, whether in sports, cookery or art.

Speaking afterwards, Jane Pearl, the mother of Kisharon pupil Chanochi, said the £1.6 million would make a difference to everyone helped by the charity.

“Chanochi is so happy at school and has thrived during his time there, being educated and cared for by the most incredible team. We could not be any more proud of the way he is growing and developing in so many ways

“The money raised will give people supported by Kisharon the ability to achieve their full potential.”

Meanwhile, Mr Franklin’s attention will be turning to the Queen’s Speech and the government’s legislative plans for social care. “Let’s hope they take the opportunity to be visionary in their thinking and grasp the appetite for change so clearly demonstrated by our wonderful donors who I cannot thank enough.”
