NIGHTINGALE HAMMERSON
NIGHTINGALE HAMMERSON CARES for 250 residents across its two homes, Nightingale House in Clapham and the newly opened Hammerson House, Wohl Campus, in Hampstead. The charity has served the community for 180 years and its care offering is exceptional.
Nightingale House is CQC-rated outstanding (Hammerson House is awaiting its first CQC rating). Its individually tailored approach to care offers a home from home for residents within residential, nursing, dementia, respite and palliative care.
The past 18 months have been difficult for all homes but Nightingale Hammerson greatly adapted its care model to address the pandemic. Ahead of government guidance, it introduced significant infection controls for residents’ safety and, crucially, so they could feel safe. Wellbeing was especially important during the times when residents were unable to see loved ones.
During the lockdowns, the engagement programme at Nightingale House proved essential for well-being. This continues to be a vital part of the outstanding care. With the opening of Hammerson House, Wohl Campus, the team has grown and the importance of their work continues.
What is enjoyable for one person, however, may be of no interest to another. Variety is therefore key. Their offering includes bridge, gardening and baking clubs, poetry readings, art, pottery and exercise classes — as well as trips to galleries, National Trust venues or the seaside.
The intergenerational programme, music concerts and partnerships with the Jewish Music Institute and Royal College of Music bring great joy to many residents.
Anyone who needs care and support in their older years can live at Nightingale Hammerson, regardless of means.
Half of the residents are self-funding with remaining costs covered by local authorities, family support and the charity’s significant fundraising. Nightingale Hammerson has always been there for the community and will continue to be there, for everyone, whenever needed.
Trustees continue to acknowledge the professional care, kindness and dedication of their teams. The care of the older generation has never been closer to people’s hearts and many now recognise the importance this sector holds in society.
