Broughton Park hand 7-0 thump to Reich

-

THE MACCABI Manchester Jewish Soccer League’s 74th season kickedoff with a 7-0 victory for Broughton Park Rangers over Reich.

Matty Miller opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a shot that seemed to deceive the goalkeeper and float into the top corner, before Shloime Halpern doubled the lead. Two became three minutes later through Jake Kelly, before Miller netted the goal of the game, producing a spectacular curling 20-yard effort.

Marley Rubens saw his penalty early in the second half saved, but did make it 5-0 when he outpaced the Rangers defence to finish. Halpern claimed his second of the match, before Marcus Buchanan rounded off the scoring, finding the back of the net after the ball ricocheted in the Rovers penalty area.

Sunday’s League match between Leeds Maccabi and Manchester Maccabi 3rd was cancelled as Maccabi were unable to field a team. A decision on the result is pending.

The draw has also been made for the third round of the Tony Cohen Cup, and sees Leeds Maccabi host Maccabi Manchester 3rd, while Reich travel to Haroldeans. Both ties will be played over two legs in October, with the semi-finals scheduled for November.

The Maccabi GB Junior Football League got underway on Sunday with a total of 13 fixtures played across four age groups. League Chairman Marc Levy said: “We’re excited to get the season underway across all of our age groups. It’s great to see over 250 young footballers enjoying their football and kicking off the season ahead.”
