Futsal crazy! Record five squads going to Maccabiah

MACCABI GB are planning on taking a record five futsal squads to the Maccabiah Games; Masters 35+, 45+, Open, U16 and U18. Announcing the two junior squads, the chairman of Maccabi’s Team GB’s futsal squads has targeted two gold medals at this summer’s Maccabiah Games – believing the U16 and U18 teams are capable of leaving Israel as champions.

And with both squads now announced and regular training sessions taking place, Laurence Myers says excitement is building among the players and managerial staff.

He said: “We can’t wait to get on the plane to Israel and once there, our aim is to try and come away with two gold medals. It would obviously be an incredible achievemen­t.”

Jamie Nagioff will manage the U18s and Scott Warren and Jamie Myers the U16s, with Tamas Gyenei coaching both. Describing the process for picking the squads and what they’ll be up to between now and July, Myers said: “We went through a thorough trial process, run by our very experience­d management team, and have in our opinion selected two very talented squads.

“Many of the players already have a lot of futsal experience and in the case of the U18s, several of the gold-winning U16 squad from Budapest.

“Both squads have been training hard for the last few months and are improving week on week.

“There’s great camaraderi­e and having managers who are all very close to each other helps with an exceptiona­l spirit and sessions that are not only high intensity but also a lot of fun.”

As well as aiming to walk away with two golds, Myers also wants the players to enjoy the experience.
