Boro boss sweating on trio’s fitness

-

MIDDLESBROUGH will be anxiously waiting on three key players ahead of tomorrow’s trip to league leaders Leicester City, in what could be a crunch game for them.

Defeat to Preston North End on Wednesday evening was a fourth game without a league win and leaves them seven points off the play-off places, albeit with a game in hand. The toughest game of the season on paper is hardly the ideal next game.

That would be the case if Boro were at full strength, but still suffering without a recognised centreforward, they were also without

Dael Fry at Deepdale and had Hayden Hackney go off late on with a twisted knee too.

Asked for an injury update after the game, with tomorrow’s trip to Leicester City in mind, Carrick said: “Dael has picked up a bit of a pelvic/groin issue.

“We’ll have to see how that settles down between now and Saturday.

“I haven’t spoken massively to Hayden about it but I think he twisted his knee.

“Sometimes they can be all right, other times they can be a little bit nasty once they stiffen up a little bit. We’ll have to wait and see on that one too. Manu is touch and go for Saturday.

“But he’s been out for a long time so we have to be a little bit careful with him.”

Being without the key trio would be a real blow for Boro.

The continued absence of Latte Lath is proving particularly problematic, with Josh Coburn also out, leaving Boro without a natural striker.

Sam Greenwood has played the role for the last three games but is yet to score and struggled to make much of an impact against Preston.
