Delight for restaurant as it clinches leading award
ASUNDERLAND restaurant renowned for its extensive range of top-notch Indian cuisine is celebrating its recent win at a national awards ceremony with its owner saying he couldn’t believe the news.
Yuvraaj, at Douro Terrace in the city, won a Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year title at the Nation’s Curry Awards and owner Monie Hussain is thrilled.
We couldn’t believe it when they said we had won,” he said.
Yuvraaj was one of seven North East restaurants to enjoy success at the awards, hosted in Manchester, with some winning more that one title at the event which is out to celebrate the UK’s rich and diverse curry culture.
A spokesperson said: “The winners have distinguished themselves with their exceptional quality, innovation and consistency in offering a truly memorable dining experience.”
The stylish Yuvraaj beat competition from across the UK, impressing judges with an extensive menu which, besides offering its own twist on traditional Indian favourites, serves a range of Bengali specials and signature dishes such as its lambbased Yuvraaj Special Gusth and king prawn meal Chingri Ankuriti.
The restaurant is a favourite with locals and has been voted Sunderland curry house of the year on three previous occasions.
Monie added of its latest win: “It not only reflects on the restaurant but on Sunderland as a whole and that we really have some amazing places to eat in the city.”
Among the Nation’s Curry Awards’ other local successes was Mumbai Flavours of Alnwick whose awards included Indian Restaurant of the Year and which has since posted a photograph on its Facebook page of customers who had travelled to eat there from Manchester on the back of its win.
