THREE North East firms, a regional charity and a mayoral authority have been listed among the best places to work in the UK.

Newcastle-based housing association Home Group is ranked as the country’s fourth best workplace in the ‘super large companies’ category of the Great Places to Work awards. Northumbrian Water, meanwhile, is listed 39th in the same category.

Citizens Advice Gateshead is listed as the 36th best large company, while Evolved Search, which is based in Newcastle, is ranked 19th best medium-sized firm and the North of Tyne Combined Authority was 88th.

Home Group improved on its position of 7th last year. Chief executive Mark Henderson said: “We are immensely proud to have not only secured another top 10 place through our Great Places to Work scores but to have improved on last year as well. It is an achievement we should all be proud of as an organisation and demonstrates that we are always striving to improve.

“What makes this accolade all the more special is the fact it comes directly from our colleagues. There’s no judging panel or polished submission to decide our Great Place to Work scores; it is based on honest feedback from our staff. I’m so proud to work with amazing people across our business, who always show such passion and commitment to their work and to supporting each other and our customers.”

Elouise Leonard-Cross, head of people strategy and experience at Northumbrian Water, said: “It is absolutely fantastic being recognised nationally for the fourth time as a top employer alongside other big names such as Admiral and Hilton.

“We have continued to have a particular focus on wellbeing at work over the last year and have had a positive response from our colleagues who are benefiting from creating a healthier workplace. Our people are incredibly passionate and work hard all year round to keep the water flowing, so it is extremely important to make sure every single one of them are supported however they need.”

The Great Places to Work lists are based on hundreds of employee survey responses, as well as submissions from companies. The organisation says its scores aim to assess “what employees say about their experiences of trust and reaching their full human potential”.

The UK’s top ranked ‘super large’ company was IT firm Cisco, while the best large company was ServiceNow, which also works in the technology sector.
