Stop ADHD gravy train
ATTENTION deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is an unscientific psychiatric label.
However, an impressive campaign has redefined normal behaviour to bring about a crippled society that can’t get by without a drug.
Despite the narratives being pumped out across social media platforms and on various websites, ADHD is not scientific. It is based on opinions about emotional and behavioural characteristics that have been redefined and accepted without inspection as a mental illness, where its management is being funded by taxpayers.
In February this year, the ADHD gravy train was given a boost when
NHS England announced it was launching an ‘ADHD taskforce’ to improve care for people living with the condition. It would be better to launch a taskforce to uncover the psychiatric propaganda that keeps the ADHD gravy train on full throttle.
ADHD was previously kept aloft by the ‘chemical imbalance in the brain’ theory. That theory was debunked by researchers at University College London.
The aforementioned campaign kicked in and, according to recent
NHS figures, there was a 15.4% increase in the prescription of ADHD drugs in 2022 and a 17.6% increase in 2023.
It cannot be denied some children and adolescents are argumentative, boisterous and even disruptive. It is also true that some adults are disorganised, they can procrastinate and they can be impulsive. These behaviours however are not symptoms of a mental illness.
If the NHS England taskforce can do anything, it should be to endorse and support the funding of non-drug workable alternatives.
