Howe has heaped praise on women’s boss Becky Langley as her Newcastle United Women’s side close in on remarkable back-toback promotions.

The Magpies can clinch the FA Women’s National League title tomorrow afternoon should they beat Huddersfield Town at Kingston Park. Langley’s side have faltered just twice so far this season, winning 17 of their 19 league outings in an impressive campaign that also saw them reach the FA Women’s National League Cup final.

Substantial backing has been given to the women’s side since the 2021 takeover, with Newcastle Women the only fully professional team in the third tier.

United co-owner Amanda Staveley has been a vocal supporter and

public presence when it comes to the women’s side but Howe has also played his part in offering support to the ‘knowledgeable’ Langley behind the scenes.

“We [Howe and Langley] are in regular communication,” he told reporters yesterday. “I have a lot of respect and admiration for her and the job she’s done.

“Back to back promotions, for anybody, is incredibly difficult. I like the way she way she conducts herself and the way she speaks, she’s very knowledgeable about the game. We want to build that relationship and good luck to her and the girls in the next game.”

Staveley once spoke of grand, seemingly outlandish, plans of seeing the female side playing in the Women’s Super League in the years to come.

Newcastle still have a way to go to reach the top flight but given the direction of travel in recent seasons, you wouldn’t bet against the one-time dream becoming a reality in the years to come. “It’s so good for everyone connected with the club,”

Howe continued. “For young girls aspiring to be footballers in the future, the more high-profile the game can be here, the more opportunities they may well get to play and improve. “Throughout the club we’re trying to improve the facilities for everybody and I think that’s the next step for the club. “Hopefully we can improve the environment for them and the club can continue to grow in that way.” Newcastle are expecting another bumper home crowd for the potential title decider this weekend. They have been consistently backed by huge attendances so far this season and are likely to be well-supported tomorrow once again.
