Teal takes a treble as his form stays on track

CHARM Park clerk of the course Jack Teal has been in great form recently and kept the bandwagon rolling with a treble on Golden Taipan, Cabin Crew and Whats The Solution on yesterday’s Derwent card at his home track.

127-rated chaser Golden Taipan, a dual winner at Perth in June 2022, initiated the treble in the 2m4f Conditions Race but had to pull out all the stops to reel in odds-on favourite Peacocks Secret near the finish and score by three-quarters-ofa-length.

Cabin Crew was yet another Teal debutant to strike gold at the first time of asking in the 2m4f Maiden Race. Related to multiple jumps winners in France, the four-year-old first saw off the challenge of Warwickshire raider Codetalker before repelling The Last Tooth’s late thrust by a neck.

Teal’s red letter day was completed on Whats The Solution in the 3m1f Maiden Race. After drawing clear with Benefact from two out, Teal’s mount stayed on best in the closing stages to win by two lengths. This was a welcome change of luck for the six-year-old who would have been placed at Corbridge last time had he not unseated at the last after the saddle slipped.

The unfancied Sunset On Fire caused an upset in the Restricted Race under Nick Orpwood. Tailed off and seemingly out of contention a mile from home, the six-year-old then engaged overdrive to hit the front three out and was still two lengths up at the last but the line just came in time as he managed to hold on by a short head from the fastfinishing Ridelonglivelong.

Leicestershire-based equine vet Tom Chatfeild-Roberts steered last season’s dual Alnwick scorer Go Go Geronimo to a pillar to post victory over odds-on favourite Camdonian in the Mixed Open Race in the best time of the day, while Wishfull Dreaming outstayed Northumbrian raider Hermann Clermont on the run-in in the Novice Riders Conditions Race after the pair had jumped the last in unison
