In an­tic­i­pa­tion of au­tumn, I thought it timely to talk trends. Yet, as I’m re­li­ably in­formed by Mac’s di­rec­tor of make-up artistry Terry Bar­ber, this sea­son we’ll have ‘di­rec­tions, not trends’, mean­ing less ‘full-on looks’ and more ‘tweaks and de­tails’ in the form of soft, fem­i­nine washes of colour. Try sweep­ing Mac Ex­tra Di­men­sion Blush in Into The Pink (above right, £23) on eye­lids to em­u­late the Al­tuzarra A/W 17 show. Or how about press­ing blush pink shade Spirit Of Fall from the Trend Fore­cast Fall 17 Lip Pal­ette (£36, both mac­cos­met­ics.co.uk) high on to cheeks, as per Rok­sanda’s cat­walk look? The move to­wards stained ter­ra­cotta lips with a blurry edge at the Top­shop Unique show – cre­ated us­ing the Lip Paint from Top­shop Lip Kit in Crazy Beau­ti­ful (£18, top­shop.com) – is one I will def­i­nitely be mak­ing. Over­all, the ob­jec­tive is to look gen­tly ‘fil­tered’ rather than ‘air­brushed’, says Bar­ber. In prac­tice, this means we’ll all be able to em­brace a more re­laxed beauty aes­thetic in the sea­son ahead. Hear, hear

Ever since its launch in 2000, Miller Har­ris has blended in­no­va­tive, timeless scents. Now four favourites from the early years are re­turn­ing for a lim­ited time. Founder Lyn Har­ris cre­ated the foresty Terre de Bois for her grand­fa­ther, while the French vi­o­let and patchouli in Gera­nium Bour­bon re­mem­bers her grand­mother’s garden.
