I’m glad we voted Out – there’s a real buzz that we can do better

-

CRISIS? What crisis?

Entrepreneur Zoe Pocock is buzzing with excitement about the vote to leave the European Union – and believes breaking free will bring renewed energy to British industry.

The former manicurist, who is married with two grown-up children – daughter Charlie, 23, and 19-year-old son Alfie – runs an upcycling business, Muck N Brass, which turns old junk into new furniture.

Zoe, 42, from Bermondsey in South-East London, says: ‘This result has created a real buzz of energy that as a small business I hope to harness so that we can do even better than before. Brexit may make people reflect more on how they spend their money if there are concerns about family budgets – and this is where areas such as upcycling can do well.

‘Having the confidence to stand on our own two feet as a nation also brings a fresh wave of imagination and hopefully appeal for bespoke furniture – not the uniformity of simply settling for what everyone else has just as you get in Europe.’

Zoe says the vote also excited her two children – with son Alfie voting to leave as she did.

Alfie is confident Britain can do better alone than if it is shackled to European Union regulations. But daughter Charlie voted to stay in because she is concerned leaving Europe might make it more difficult for her Australian boyfriend to have a work visa in Britain.

Zoe adds: ‘There is bound to be economic turbulence in the shortterm – but I am happy to hold tight and enjoy the ride for the longterm gains.

‘I am disappointed about some of the negative comments made by those that wanted to remain in Europe – we should be excited and not full of fear.’
