Brightest may not be best
Last week Peter Hitchens called the Cabinet the dimmest in our history, but surely we have to give them time to prove themselves? After all, education is no guarantee of intelligence. I was at school with plenty of people who excelled academically but who were short of common sense. Until now, this country has mostly been led by public-school types who take us from one catastrophe to another, usually in the knowledge that it won’t really affect them as they come from wealthy families.
David Brock, Swansea I attended a comprehensive before graduating from Aston University and becoming a chartered civil and structural engineer. I have had my own business since 1989. Simply because someone went to a state school does not mean they are dim.
