Lineker boxers clever over MoTD pants

- By Mark Wood

THEY were destined to be some of the most scrutinised underpants on TV, so it should come as no surprise to discover Gary Lineker went to the top of the fashion world when selecting a pair for last night’s Match Of The Day.

The Mail on Sunday can reveal that Lineker’s pristine pants were specially styled for him by legendary British designer Sir Paul Smith. The pundit let slip that he’d enlisted a knight of the realm to design his undies to Event’s Piers Morgan. At a dinner in Beverley Hills Piers asked: ‘What are you going to wear – Y-fronts, budgie smugglers?’

The presenter replied: ‘I can’t say but Paul Smith’s designing them for me.’ In case you missed it, Lineker was forced to wear just his pants for part of last night’s show following an illadvised Tweet last December. Following a 2-1 victory by his former club Leicester over Chelsea, he told his followers: ‘YES! If Leicester win the @ premierleague I’ll do the first MOTD of next season in just my undies.’

The former England striker wore only pants for the opening section of the Premier League highlights show.

The programme featured action from unlikely champions Leicester’s first game in defence of their title, which sadly for Lineker they lost.

Lineker made sure he was in shape for the show, doing gym sessions four times a week and cutting out alcohol and carbs.
