Security in fracking
In addition to your letters last week about whether we should embrace fracking, I’d like to point out that the shale gas revolution has led to a big fall in gas prices in the USA. Natural gas has far less effect on the environment than coal and while there are environmental consequences with fracking, if there is proper monitoring these should be controllable.
As we have seen from the decision to put Hinkley Point on hold, power is a question of national security, and when our gas comes across Europe from Ukraine, it is not rocket science to suggest that fracking could be a solution, and a fillip to the economy, as it has been in the USA.
