‘Kidults’ have real disorder
Your article in You magazine titled ‘Are you married to a child?’ – about ‘kidult’ men who refuse to grow up – failed to differentiate between the overgrown kid who has some mild narcissistic traits and real narcissists, who are dangerous.
Many of the abusive characteristics described are actually attributes of someone who has narcissistic personality disorder (NPD). This disorder affects one in six of the population and about 75 per cent of sufferers are men. Someone who suffers from NPD is both dangerous, abusive and often difficult to spot. The issue of abuse, especially within the setting of the relationship, is a serious matter.
Most victims do not even realise that they have been targeted by a narcissist, who seduces and abuses them before discarding them and starting the cycle again.
