You’re a boor, Donald!

Who says so? Your ally Nigel Farage...

- By Brendan Carlin POLITICAL REPORTER

NIGEL FARAGE has branded Donald Trump a ‘boor’ – while disclosing he has been secretly advising the US presidential candidate’s campaign team.

The former Ukip leader’s less than flattering view was revealed only weeks after the two men shared a platform in Mississippi.

Farage was overheard telling friends at the party’s conference in Bournemouth last week: ‘I would say at worst Trump is a boor,’ before adding with a grin, ‘actually he’s a boor at best too!’

He also boasted of advising the Republican’s camp on the lessons to be learnt from the successful Brexit referendum campaign.

Last night, Mr Farage, who stood down last week, confirmed he had been critical of Trump’s tactics. He denied saying Trump was a boor ‘at best’ but said: ‘There was a period after the [US] conventions when Trump came across a bit boorish. It all looked a bit sexist, a bit out of date.’

But he claimed Trump had now ‘changed his act’, and declared: ‘He’s going to win.’

Mr Farage also confirmed he has been advising Trump’s aides on the implications of the EU referendum result – saying they were ‘fascinated by what made Brexit happen’. He told Trump’s people: ‘The important thing is to get the ground campaign out, to meet ordinary people who are detached from the voting process and try to inspire them into engaging.’ The news came amid claims new Ukip leader Diane James is Mr Farage’s ‘sock puppet’. Ukip’s Welsh leader Neil Hamilton – who was banned from speaking at the conference by Mrs James after she was elected leader, also claimed the party was ‘sinking’. Asked if he thought Mr Farage had ordered the ban, Mr Hamilton said: ‘It’s possible.’ He added: ‘I don’t think it’s any good for Diane’s image to be thought of as a sock-puppet for Nigel Farage. If she’s going to be a successful leader, she has to make her own way.’ Mr Farage hit back last night, saying: ‘Mr Hamilton’s ability for throwing out abuse and for causing chaos within political parties is virtually unparalleled in the modern era.’ The row came amid claims that Mr Farage was so ‘demob happy’ at giving up the leadership for the third time that he had gone ‘skinny-dipping’ off Bournemouth Pier with party funder Arron Banks. But yesterday, Mr Farage revealed that he had kept his underpants on.
