The insiders’ guide to thrilling Tokyo

- ASK FRANK BARRETT

QWE’RE very keen to visit Japan soon, particularly as Tokyo will be hosting the next Olympic Games in 2020. While there are lots of useful guide books, I’ve had difficulty finding an inspirational source of up-tothe-minute travel ideas. As the Japanese capital is such a vibrant, modern city, I would have imagined there would be a website to match.

AI’M SURPRISED you haven’t already come across the Official Tokyo Travel Guide (gotokyo.org/en/), which is a mine of interesting information, covering everything from sightseeing routes to tips on dining. I would also recommend looking at the ‘official Brand Tokyo’ site – andtokyo.jp/en/ – which offers fascinating insights into the city’s life and culture.

QWE WOULD like to book an affordable hotel in an interesting part of London for a celebratory weekend break next month. All suggestions gratefully received. Walter, by email

ATHERE are more than 700 hotels in the capital, so you’re not short of choice. I particularly like the London Bridge Hotel (londonbridgehotel. com), where rooms cost from £139 a night. Situated next to The Shard and Borough Market, it’s an easy walk to the Tower of London, St Paul’s and lots of other major sights.

QI HEAR that easyJet is flying this winter to La Palma in the Canary Islands. What does this island offer to holidaymakers? Bella, by email

ALA PALMA is an off-thebeaten-track place. From touring its South Americaninspired capital Santa Cruz to hiking and taking catamaran trips, there’s plenty to do. For details about flights, go to easyjet.com.
