It was worth the outlay to help Amy get an A grade in chemistry
AN investment in tutoring sessions paid off handsomely for Elaine and Chris Rhodes when their daughter Amy, 18, achieved a better than expected A grade in her chemistry A-level.
Elaine, 53, says: ‘Amy wanted to do medicine, so needed good grades. She was predicted an A or B in chemistry, but when she got a C in her AS grade last year, we decided to seek extra tuition.’
Elaine struggled to find a tutor through recommendations. She says: ‘There’s real secrecy about tutoring. People often don’t want to talk about it.’
She found a tutor through First Tutors online, and paid £25 an hour for fortnightly sessions. She says: ‘I felt that was value for money. For us, the tuition was about exam strategy, ensuring that Amy knew exactly what each question required. She didn’t need it for her other A-levels, but chemistry seemed difficult.’
Elaine and Chris, both IT consultants from Stockport, Cheshire, were delighted when Amy got the result she needed. Elaine says: ‘It really seemed worth it.’
