Davina’s struggles made her stronger
I approached Davina McCall’s story in You magazine rather wearily, thinking: ‘Oh, here she goes again with her tales of her drug-taking in her 20s.’
But by the end I had a newfound respect for the woman. She has been through so much: her mother abandoned her as a child without saying goodbye, then went to the media about Davina attending Narcotics Anonymous. Davina later cared for her sister as she went through her long terminal illness. And that’s all on top of the heroin addiction.
We think those in the limelight have always had perfect lives but Davina’s has been far from it. Credit to her for forging a successful career despite her troubles.
James Benn, London I salute the way Davina opened up her heart in last week’s You magazine, particularly how a furious confrontation with her best friend Sarah forced her to face up to her heroin addiction.
The drugs could have killed her, and they blight the lives of so many other youngsters today. That is why I believe they should never be legalised.
Davina is fortunate that she had a friend like Sarah at the right time. Sarah may have been arguing with Davina when she was confronting her about her drug use, but what she was really saying was: I love you.
