Don’t dismiss the Dales

Liz Jones’s claim last week that rural life is ‘sexist, cruel and lonely’ was nonsense.

I, too, live in the Yorkshire Dales, and like Liz I am a journalist who used to live in London. Unlike her, I visited the Dales for 15 years before buying my house and got to know and love the people and their way of life. It is the most friendly and caring community I have ever been a part of. I have a thriving social life and find the majority of men enlightened and respectful. Wendy Fuller, Arkengarthdale, North Yorkshire Liz Jones’s unfounded hatred of my county and the people here is totally offensive. To read her ‘poor me’ accounts is infuriating.
