Yorkshire go Down Under again as they target Hodge for coach role

-

BRAD HODGE is the man Yorkshire’s players want to replace Jason Gillespie as head coach.

Director of cricket Martyn Moxon will now focus his attention on recruiting Gillespie’s successor after the quest to send off the Australian with a third consecutive County Championship was foiled on the final evening of the season at Lord’s. The return of first-choice Paul Farbrace — who turned down the position earlier this week — would have proved popular but the squad are keen on Gillespie’s compatriot Hodge.

The 41-year-old is captain and assistant coach to Gillespie at the Adelaide Strikers, and became head coach with Gujarat Lions in the Indian Premier League earlier this year.

Rich Pyrah, one of the assistant coaches at Yorkshire, worked with Hodge at the Strikers last winter. Word has got back of a laid-back approach and exciting vision for white-ball cricket, a target for Yorkshire.
