One law for Rio... and another for wild West
OVER one weekend at the start of this month, 13 people were shot dead in Chicago and 52 more were injured in shootings in the city.
I noticed partly because I’m intending to go to watch a Chicago White Sox game there on Tuesday night and partly because it struck me that I haven’t seen any outraged American journalists arguing, as they did when they visited Rio de Janeiro for the Olympics, that it’s disgusting that sport is allowed to continue against a backdrop of such violent crime.
There is one law for developing countries, it seems, and quite another for the West.
