Dolly’s diet: low carbs and a bedtime book
SHE turned 70 this year, but country legend Dolly Parton has scoffed at the idea of changing her eating habits in old age.
The queen of rhinestones – and serial dieter – laughed at a suggestion that she would soon be adopting a whole-grain heavy macrobiotic diet, instead professing her love of pasta and joking: ‘The only macro I’m interested in is macro-roni!’
Asked about her dieting, Dolly, pictured right, said: ‘Over the years I’ve done every kind of diet in the world but I can’t live on them.
‘I’ve learned high-protein and low carbs works well for me when I’m touring because I’m a big eater and you can still eat quite a bit on that.
‘I have to be conscious of what I eat because my clothes are very tight when I’m on tour so I have to watch it. I have a low-carb diet in the week then eat what I want on my off days, but I have to be conscious of it because I don’t want to gain a bunch of weight and be uncomfortable in my clothes.’
With no plans to retire just yet, the Jolene singer revealed that she’s swapped bingeing for books after a show to keep up her energy.
‘I just try to take care of myself. I don’t party after shows. I’ll read a book instead. I just try to keep my mind on my business.’
