IN-FORM DUCKETT TO BE HANDED TEST START AFTER ODI HEROICS

-

BEN DUCKETT’S meteoric rise looks set to continue this week with a Test debut against Bangladesh.

Duckett (right) scored two halfcenturies in his first three one-day internationals to help the tourists to a 2-1 series victory — and looks likely to take his place in the middle order in the first Test starting Thursday after top-scoring with 59 from 63 balls against a Bangladesh Cricket Board XI. Duckett, who turns 22 tomorrow, showed his class on a pitch that every other England batsman during a total of 137 for four struggled to come to terms with. He opened alongside Haseeb Hameed, who had made just five by the time his partner had reached 50.

Duckett is in line to assume the No4 position vacated by James Vince, who was dropped after enduring a torrid Test summer.
