AS A model who can open doors anywhere, Cara Delevingne is probably used to fabulous freebies. But an entire holiday island in the Maldives is exceptional, even by her standards.
Cara, 24, along with model sister Poppy, 30, will take over Finolhu Baa Atoll for a week from next Saturday – and they’ve invited up to 160 celebrity friends. Pop stars Rihanna and Taylor Swift are expected and actress Sienna Miller will be there.
Of course, the mother of all freebies doesn’t come without strings attached. And the sisters have promised to blitz social media with endless selfies, bringing a fortune in free advertising, thanks to Cara’s 35million Instagram followers. Magazine deals have also been arranged.
Cara, 24, had originally planned a much longer stay in Finolhu with her former girlfriend, pop star St Vincent. But when they broke up in September, dates were rapidly rearranged – as was the guest list.
The whole shebang has taken six months to organise and guests will arrive by boat or seaplane throughout the week of fun, which will include five fancy-dress parties.
Happily, the guests will not feel cramped. The resort – ‘a place where yesterday’s dreams are tomorrow’s memories’ according to its overenthusiastic website – caters for up to 272 people staying in 136 villas, which usually start at £700 a night. There is a cinema, five spas and a hair salon. Five restaurants serve £70 lobsters and black truffle roast duck. There is even a photography studio to make Cara and Poppy feel at home.
The resort is patrolled by acrobats, stilt walkers and entertainers dressed as mermaids. Every month a full moon ‘celebration’ is held.
Last week, one of Cara’s guest wrote on Twitter: ‘Just been given a list of five different themes for fancy dress. For five different par- ties. On a tropical island. I mean. Panic stations.’
The mile-long resort is owned by Ahmed Maniku, who runs a large hotel company in the Maldives. A spokeswoman for Finolhu said they hoped the Delevingne sisters would return, but did not say if they would be expected to pay next time.
