Truly remarkable

Daisy Lowe’s dad gives his Voice vote to singer called Truly Scrumptious... then sees she’s spitting image of his daughter

HER voice was good enough to make rock star Gavin Rossdale turn his chair and see who was singing in his debut show as a judge on talent show The Voice.

And he was stunned to see that the contestant facing him – Truly Scrumptious Ford – was an uncanny double for his daughter Daisy Lowe.

The dramatic moment was among the highlights of The Voice’s first outing on ITV after its switch from the BBC.

Ms Ford, a 22-year-old waitress whose mother named her Truly Scrumptious after the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang character, had given a memorable rendition of Dakota by the Stereophonics.

After Rossdale was moved to turn his chair – the way judges give their approval for hopefuls on the show – she responded by selecting him as her coach, describing him as ‘the perfect match’.

It was an apt turn of phrase, given the way Ms Ford and Ms Lowe share extraordinarily similar features and hairstyles. Rossdale enthused later: ‘I’ve got my first team member, she’ll always be my number one. What I liked about Truly was something really deep and meaningful.’

Ms Ford admitted it wasn’t the first time that she had been compared to her new coach’s daughter. She said: ‘We both have dark hair and a grungy style so I get that quite a lot. I haven’t met her – maybe we would get on. I’m sure she’s lovely.’

Model Ms Lowe was revealed to be the daughter of the Bush frontman in 2010 following a paternity test. His personal life has continued to attract attention after he cheated on now ex-wife pop star Gwen Stefani with their children’s nanny.

And while Rossdale, 51, has been tipped as a heartthrob for the show, Ms Ford was not planning to join his throng of female admirers. She said: ‘He’s wonderful to look at – come on. But he’s a bit old for me, I think he’s the same age as my dad.’

Rossdale was just one new addition to the show, with ITV pulling out all the stops to compete with Gary Barlow’s new venture Let It Shine on BBC One.
