CHRIS WILDER remained upbeat after leaders Sheffield United kept a five-point gap to Scunthorpe.

All the main action happened in the first six minutes of the second half. Paddy Madden gave Scunthorpe the lead, before Billy Sharp (above) quickly equalised and the visitors then had Harry Toffolo sent off for a wild challenge on Kieron Freeman.

Madden and Jay O’Shea then hit the woodwork for either side, and United boss Wilder said: ‘That was a proper performanc­e. We are in a great position with 13 games to go. We are going to be tough to stop.’

WALSALL 2 PETERBORO 0

ERHUN OZTUMER scored direct from a late corner, before Kieron Morris sealed Walsall’s win. Chris Forrester was sent off for the visitors for protesting the first goal after an alleged foul.

BRADFORD 2 BOLTON 2

DAVID WHEATER and Gary Madine goals rescued an unlikely point for Bolton after Charlie Wyke’s early double for Bradford. Wanderers boss Phil Parkinson said: ‘We had to respond and we did it in terrific fashion. What character we have.’

SWINDON 0 OLDHAM 0

OLDHAM goalkeeper Connor Ripley was the difference after Swindon were held to a goalless draw. ‘We stood off Swindon too much and Connor kept us in the game,’ said boss John Sheridan.

CHESTERFIE­LD 1 BURY 2

TOM ANDERSON’S red card for Chesterfie­ld paved the way for Andrew Tutte’s fine strike and George Miller’s opportunis­m to earn Bury, who saw Ryan Lowe’s penalty saved, a late win. Kristian Dennis gave the hosts the lead.

NORTHAMPTO­N twice hit back via Marc Richards and John-Joe O’Toole after goals by Jermaine McGlashan and Simon Cox for Southend. Home boss Phil Brown said: ‘Our lads put in so much.’

A KWAME THOMAS brace gave Coventry a first league win in 16 games. Boss Russell Slade said: ‘Togetherne­ss, self-belief, fight and hard work were four things we talked about, and we got them.’ Max Ehmer scored for Gillingham.

ARISTOTE NSIALA’S last-minute winner kept Shrewsbury on track for survival. ‘It was a great header,’ said boss Paul Hurst. Tyler Roberts put the hosts 1-0 up, with Andy Barcham replying.

CIAN BOLGER’S winner put Fleetwood to within two points of the automatic promotion places. ‘It was massively difficult, and now we can come away with a sense of satisfacti­on,’ said boss Uwe Rosler.

JORGE TEIXEIRA’S late goal, his second of the game, salvaged a point for Charlton, who also scored via Jordan Botaka. Niall Canavan, Calvin Andrew and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing struck for Rochdale, who led twice.

CARETAKER-BOSS Michael Brown is confident Port Vale can beat the drop. A Bob Harris own goal put them in front, but a fine effort from Billy Bodin secured the visitors a point. ‘We have the confidence to get out of it,’ insisted Brown. ‘The players showed spirit and belief.’
