A killer come back

- By Adam Lee-Potter

BRITISH TV had never seen anything like it. A little-hailed detective drama set in a seaside Dorset town appeared in the schedules without fanfare. But within weeks the nation was gripped.

By the final episode of Broadchurch, ten million viewers who had been hooked by the investigation into the death of schoolboy Danny Latimer were stunned to see Joe Miller, the husband of detective Ellie Miller (played by Olivia Colman), confess.

But after the brilliance of the first series, a second season disappointed fans and critics alike. So as the ITV drama returns for a third and final series tomorrow at 9pm, there’s one question that viewers want answered: will Broadchurch return to its best?

Happily, the critics’ verdict is a resounding Yes, with The Mail on Sunday’s Event magazine giving it four stars. Colman returns along- side David Tennant, as Detective Inspector Alec Hardy, this time to investigate a rape case.

But still there are questions left hanging over from the murder of Danny after Joe’s dramatic acquittal. Here, The Mail on Sunday guides you through all you need to know about the characters, the locations – and the mysteries that will at last be solved…
