BBC and a Sewing Bee stitch-up

-

The Great British Sewing Bee, presented by Claudia Winkleman (pictured), has been on BBC2 in late winter or spring for the past four years.

So after suffering a schedule packed with repeats (which are mostly rubbish), I’ve been looking forward to its return.

Now I find out that it will no longer be shown.

Why has the BBC ditched one of its most popular programmes of recent years?

More and more people are sewing these days and they are not just making clothes and quilts – they are making bags and toys too. Please, BBC, think again!

Beryl Newton, Crewe I am 80 and have been sewing garments such as skirts and dresses since I was 15. While watching The Great British Sewing Bee, I would say to my husband: ‘I could do that.’ So I bought a new sewing machine and have made a ‘snowflake’ costume for a Christmas school play and a Batman cape for my five-year-old grandson. And I made an apron featuring a spider, grasshopper, ladybird, centipede and a peach (plus a maggot) for my granddaughter’s Brownies group. I am sure the Sewing Bee has inspired a lot of women. We need more programmes like this. J.Day, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire
