More own goals on Planet Football

-

Last week it was confirmed that football is on a different planet – a planet where humour, loyalty and reason have flown out of the window.

Look at that poor Sutton United goalie, fired for stuffing himself with a pasty. It was viewed that he had potentially broken FA gambling rules.

And Leicester City have waved goodbye to their most successful manager, Claudio Ranieri. In May last year, Leicester achieved the unthinkable by winning the Premier League. But poor form since has led to Ranieri being fired, even though his team are still in the Champions’ League.

We see games moved about to suit the TV paymasters rather than to cater for the ordinary fan. It’s clear that money rules the roost, and obscene amounts change hands in transfer fees and wages in the upper echelons of the sport. Love of the game has been replaced with the love of lucre. It is no longer the people’s game. It is dominated by greed and TV. Denis Bruce, Bishopbriggs, Glasgow
