Aussies’ warning for England as Monty helps them crush India

- By Stephen Davies

AUSTRALIA put England’s meek surrender in India into perspective by storming to a shock 333-run victory over Virat Kohli’s all-stars in the first Test in Pune.

Slow left-armer Steve O’Keefe (above) produced two six-wicket hauls as India were skittled for 105 and 107, crumbling inside three days.

The Aussies had been completely written off heading to India, who had not lost a home series since losing to England in 2012.

The Australian management even drafted in Monty Panesar, now without a county, to act as an adviser to Steve Smith’s men on the eve of the series.

Panesar’s words of wisdom inspired O’Keefe, who finished with 12 for 70 and made a nonsense of India’s decision to prepare a turning wicket.

‘It was up to them to prepare a wicket and they prepared a wicket that actually played into our hands,’ said Smith, who hit his 18th Test century in the second innings to effectively bat India out of the match.
