Boxer, 17, dies after f ight
A BOXER aged 17 has died shortly after losing an amateur fight.
Eddie Bilbey collapsed on Friday night as the referee declared his opponent the winner of the bout in South Normanton, Derbyshire.
A doctor present gave CPR and paramedics were called but Bilbey, from Ripley, near Derby, died before reaching hospital.
The fight had three rounds of three minutes. Craig Perkins of Earl Shilton Boxing – the academy of Mr Bilbey’s opponent Tyler Rivers – said: ‘This wasn’t a brutal fight, it was a competitive fight between two well-matched opponents.’
The Board of England Boxing, which sanctioned the fight, is investigating, as are police, though they say there are currently no suspicious circumstances.
A post-mortem examination is yet to be carried out.
