Fifth of drivers still use phone

NEARLY a fifth of drivers admit to using their mobile behind the wheel despite a new police crackdown.

Three million social media messages are sent by motorists every week, including more than 500,000 Facebook updates and 230,000 tweets, while half of offenders regularly text and drive, a study by insurance giant More Than found.

Earlier this month, the law was changed to include a doubling of fines to £200.
