It’s the Healthy Bikers . . . as TV duo go veggie

-

FAMOUS for their love of meat, motorbikes and ‘man food’, the Hairy Bikers are unlikely advocates of a vegetarian lifestyle.

But, having shed more than six stone between them by concocting quick and easy dishes that were also low in calories, the pair have now cooked up a book of meat-free recipes.

For the fifth volume of their multi-million-selling Hairy Dieters series, Si King and Dave Myers hope to show that going vegetarian can be just as easy as going low-cal, and needn’t mean missing out on the foods you love.

King says: ‘Whether you want to lose weight, cut out meat entirely, cut down, or just incorporate some more meat-free dishes into your diet, the book is full of simple and easy to follow recipes for 80 tasty veggie meals and snacks, from Lancashire hotpot to veggie sausages.’

King and Myers met on the set of a television drama in 1995 and have been cooking and riding bikes together ever since. They’ve written more than 20 cookbooks and starred in numerous television series.

Told they were at risk of diabetes, heart disease and other serious health problems, the pair – who shot to fame by creating hearty comfort food – have transformed themselves from roly-poly kitchen jokers into healthy-eating role models and unlikely diet gurus.

They recently fronted a Public Health England campaign to encourage the over-40s to make simple switches to their diet for a healthier lifestyle. The Hairy Dieters Go Veggie is published on May 18 by Orion.
