Walk off your liver disease

-

A BRISK half-hour walk every day may be enough to rid yourself of liver disease, scientists say.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common cause of chronic liver disease in the Western world, with the British Liver Trust estimating that one person in five in the UK is in the early stages of the condition.

A new study has found that 150 minutes of moderate exercise, such as brisk walking, per week reduced the risk of developing NAFLD by 30 per cent. In addition, three in ten patients in the study who already had NAFLD and started a minimum of 30 minutes a day of moderate exercise reversed their symptoms after an average of two-and-a-half years.

The Brazilian study involved 5,860 patients aged 18 to 60.
