When £20m was no compensation...
CARLOS TEVEZ signed for West Ham in August 2006 — but in January 2007 the evidence of third-party ownership emerged. The Premier League fined the Hammers £5.5m rather than deducting points. On the final day of that season, Tevez scored the only goal in a win at Manchester United (right) which kept West Ham in the top flight but relegated the Blades. An appeal against relegation failed and the Blades got just £20m in compensation from West Ham. Boss Neil Warnock quit and the spiral downwards began. They have been in League One since 2011.
