Collector hooked on tales of true heroism
ROGER Bragger adores war medals which have a history.
The 73-year-old from Tamworth, Staffordshire, has a collection worth £70,000.
He collects medals from campaigns and wars fought by the British since the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.
‘Part of the appeal is the research and the stories behind the medals,’ he says. ‘I have even had the privilege of meeting some of the medal winners’ descendants.’
Bragger, a retired engineer, says his collection has increased in value significantly in recent years.
He believes this is partly due to his meticulous research which has unearthed the tales relating to many of the medals.
He adds: ‘It is not about how much you pay for an individual medal. The real thrill of collecting is the fascinating stories that are often behind them.’
